Wayne Brady in Anaheim
07/01/2003 11:23 AM
My mood

Time for me to write about the Wayne Brady preformance I went to last night. The show was going on during the same time the Angles/Dodgers game was happening. Not to mention that that stadium was sharing the same parking lot as the theatre where Wayne Brady was preforming.

My parents and I left home at three o'clock in the afternoon, even though the show didnt start until 8 o'clock at night.

During the drive down there, I finally remembered the important thing I had forgotten. Whose Line. I forgot to set the VCR to record the new Whose Line episodes!! Damnit! I felt awful for the rest of the afternoon.

The traffic was terrible. It took us three hours to drive 70(?) miles down to Anaheim. But it was still perfect timing. We got into Anaheim at 6 o'clock, giving us an hour to eat and park the car before the doors opened.

We had dinner at a McDonalds and after we were done eating we decided to go back to the car to read/listen to Harry Potter and the Order of Pheonix. (I read the book -- my parents listen to the books on tape. But we were at the same exact part so it was okay at the time.) So we have the windows rolled down and we're enjoying the book, and this lady, this young woman parks crookedly next to us, gets halfway out her window, and starts puking. Lovely.

So at about 7:30PM my mom and I entered the theatre and we waiting for the show to start. It started about ten minutes after 8PM. ...I have to admit, the Las Vegas show was a ton better than this Anaheim one.

I had a hard time seeing the stage because I was in the middle of the 3rd Tier and there were all these heads in front of me. I was so glad that they had a huge TV screen that showed the stage.

First thing was Wayne sang a rap about a suggestion from the audience. After that, Wayne told the audience that the next game would be done with him and Jonathan blind-folded and walking on mouse traps. I was thinking,"Are they crazy?? Okay, I get it. It's a big gag. They're gonna get out of it some clever way." But they never did. I felt like the only sensable person there -- I felt like Hermione. They actually did the scene like that. Mouse traps all around the stage and they are blind folded. I laughed a bit but for the most of the scene I had my hands covering my mouth.

I think the next game they did was where they do a scene will as many genres they can in ten minutes. Wayne did his Arnold impression during action, and made up long lines of Spanish during Spanish soap opera. Oh, speaking of the Spanish soap opera -- that one was so funny! Wayne was talking and Jonathan wasnt anywhere to be seen. When Wayne had said long lines of Spanish, Jonathan came out with his shirt rolled up and stuffed with towels. I wanted to crack up so bad but I kept my composure while laughing since my mom was sitting next to me.

I think the funniest part of the night happened during that game. They had to redo the scene they just did in the style of Civil War, and so Wayne was just standing there in the middle of the stage and Jonathan runs out to him and yells,"You're free!!" and Wayne ran off.

Next game (that I remember) was also for Wayne and Jonathan. They were to make up a parody of "Devil Went Down to Georgia" right on the spot. They asked the audience to raise their hand if they thought they had a dangerous job and Wayne called on the guy that I had borrowed a pen from earlier in the evening. Wayne asked the man what he did for a living and the man stood there tall and said,"Im a Knight." That looked like it through Wayne and Jonathan off a bit. It was finally explained he was a knight that worked at Midevil Times. So Wayne and Jonathan made up a song called "Devil Went Down to Midevil Times". After each verse the two of them would dance around and at the beginning of one verse they exchanged lines saying they had to get better choreography. So after the next verse ended, they danced around and acted silly, and at one point Jonathan stuck his butt out and Wayne pretended to slap it. That became a running joke for the rest of the evening.

They did sound effects (the guy that did the sound effects was awesome) and Wayne sang to an audience member (she got up and danced around), and then there was a guessing game like charades played by Wayne, Jonathan, and Bill (warm up guy from the Wayne Brady Show; "DeVry Guy"). One suggestion given that stands out most in my mind is the golf ball filled with butter because when Wayne was trying to guess what the golf ball was filled with, Jonathan made the motion of churning butter but he did it a little too close to his crotch. Wayne took it the wrong way and doubled over laughing. Jonathan later shurgged and said,"Well Ive never done it before!" (He was talking about churning butter when he said that, if you didnt catch it. ^_~)

The second half of the show was the music portion. There's nothing really to mention about it except for I was praying for the end of the show to come because all the people around me were drunk out of their minds. Also, the speakers were too loud and I came out of the building with my ears buzzing. They didnt even use my song title.... *Sigh*

So that was my evening. I spent the three-house trip back home reading Harry Potter and the Order of Pheonix. Once home (midnight) I stayed on the computer for a little while and then went to bed. It was a nice night. It's too mad, though, that they didnt play Moving People like they did in Las Vegas. I was planning on volunteering myself for that game.

I'll update about how my days have been later on. Bye for now!
